Taizé Prayer
Taizé is a form of prayer created and practiced by the Taizé monastic community in France — a worship experience comprising of simple, repetitive chants/songs, Scripture, silence and prayer. https://www.taize.fr
Taizé is the name of a tiny village hidden away in the hills of Burgundy, France. During WWII, Roger Schultz founded the ecumenical monastic community in the village of Taizé. Today, Taizé is a place to which thousands of visitors come each week to join in prayer and reflection.
The Taizé community comprises around eighty brothers from different church backgrounds — Catholic, Anglican, Protestant — and from nearly thirty countries. By its very existence, it is a “parable of community” — a tangible sign of reconciliation between divided Christians and separated peoples.
This website is intended to help those in the tri-state area, and those visiting New York City to find a meditative and warm worship experience in the spirit of the Taizé community. Please join us!
Evening Prayer Opportunity in Brooklyn
Rev. Kathryn Dickinson and an ecumenical team lead prayer in the spirit and form of Taizé song and prayer. An evening prayer is currently hosted by Old First Reformed Church in Park Slope on the corner of 7th Avenue and Carroll Street. (729 Carroll Street.) Wednesday prayer is at 7:30pm. In addition, most Wednesday prayer will have a Zoom component. Contact us at faithandartscoalition@gmail.com for more information.
We invite musicians, singers, and participants to join us, especially in these times when the world cries out for peace amongst peoples, congregations, neighborhoods, and nations. We seek to grow this ecumenical liturgy, song and prayer in the format of Taizé prayer as shared at the monastic community in Taizé, France.
